Substance abuse experts say preliminary research is promising news in the treatment of alcohol abuse which effects nearly 30 million Americans.
Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Amid the current substance abuse crisis surrounding opioids and fentanyl, researchers have made a breakthrough discovery in the treatment alcohol abuse disorders.
A medication used to treat a common skin condition also dramatically cuts alcohol use. Otezla has long been used to treat psoriasis and other auto-immune disorders. Researchers are now seeing great results to treat someone who is drinking too much alcohol and can’t stop.
Substance abuse expert Steve Carelton, Chief Clinical Officer a Gallus Medical Detox with offices in 5 states including Texas says studies preliminary research on Otezla for alcohol use disorders has shown to lower alcohol use by over 50%.
Many more people misuse alcohol than any other drug. Clinicians and doctors say it’s often overlooked, or not treated soon enough when it becomes an addiction. This new medicine, along with the many other things we have in our arsenal because medication isn’t the only thing you want to do can help people stop drinking.
Nearly 30-million Americans have the disorder and alcohol attributes to over 140-thousand deaths per year.
