DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Mayor Eric Johnson announced Monday that former United States Ambassador Ron Kirk will join the Mayor’s International Advisory Council.
Kirk served as the U.S. Trade Representative from 2009-2013 and previously served as the mayor of Dallas from 1995-2002. As part of the MIAC, he joins six other former distinguished Dallas residents who have held the rank of U.S. Ambassador: Richard Fisher, Kathryn Hall, Robert Jordan, James C. Oberwetter, Mark Langdale and the MIAC’s chair, Jeanne L. Phillips.
Mayor Johnson said the MIAC has been crucial to his international initiatives, including bringing the Trade Office of France to the Dallas International District last month.
“I am excited to welcome my friend Ambassador Kirk to my advisory council, which has been so critical to our growing efforts to enhance our city’s standing on the international stage,” Mayor Johnson said. “Ambassador Kirk’s experience and expertise will be a welcome addition to this team, and I am grateful for his continued willingness to serve Dallas.”
Before his tenure as mayor of Dallas, Ambassador Kirk served as the Texas Secretary of State from 1994-95. He is now Senior Of Counsel in Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher’s Dallas and Washington, D.C. offices. At the firm, he focuses on providing strategic advice to companies with global interests and serves as the Leader of the International Trade Practice Group and as a member of the Sports Law, Public Policy, Crisis Management and Private Equity Practice Groups.
Mayor Johnson formed the MIAC in January 2020 to help develop his administration’s international relations strategies. MIAC’s goal is to strengthen and grow the city’s global business and diplomatic ties and boost international tourism in Dallas.
