FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – The jury in the trial for former Fort Worth Police Officer Aaron Dean began deliberating in the punishment phrase of the trial just before 10 a.m. on Monday.
Dean was convicted of manslaughter last week in the 2019 killing of Atatiana Jefferson.
On Monday, both sides gave closing arguments.
The defense painted a picture of an Officer who was doing his job. Dean’s lawyers described the shooting as a “tragedy.”
Prosecutors argued that Dean was egotistical and poorly trained.
Dean faces between 2 to 20 years in prison. The jury has the option to probate the sentence, which would require discretion from the Judge.
