(WBAP/KLIF) — As winter approaches, Texans are again reminded of winter storm Uri and its effects in 2021. ERCOT has come under scrutiny since the power grid failure claimed the lives of 246 Texans.
During a Tuesday press conference, Public Utility Commission of Texas Chairman Peter Lake says they’ve made additional improvements this year, including improved communication measures, stricter weatherization standards and increased inspections. In addition, Lake says a new technology is being used to improve grid protection, as additional fuel is being stored at generator sites allowing an additional three thousand megawatts of production.
ERCOT expects Texas’ power grid to be ready for any repeat of winter storm Uri in the future. Not only do they have a winterized generation fleet which is a game-changer, but they also have better communication between the state’s generators and fuel suppliers for natural gas and coal.
