(Austin, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – Governor Greg Abbott is now acknowledging that the New York City mayor’s office reached out about trying to co-ordinate migrant drop-offs from Texas to NYC.
It’s was a claim made by NY Mayor Eric Adams himself in an interview during the The Texas Tribune Festival over two weeks ago. Adams said that his “team” reached out to Abbott’s “team” asking about efforts to coordinate the migrants’ arrival and treatment. He said that the request went unanswered and that Texas “kept sending buses.”
“Our team reached out and … communicated with his team and stated, ‘Can you let us know so we can coordinate the effort?’ They refused to let us know. They continued to send the buses.”
At the time Abbott responded to questions about Adams’s claim that the mayor had not reached out. Abbott repeated that claim during last Friday’s Texas gubernatorial debate when asked directly about the issue.
On Tuesday, according to the Texas Tribune Abbott acknowledged that Adams’ office sent an email on the matter but again stressed that the mayor himself had not made direct contact.
Gov. Abbott started sending migrant buses to Washington, DC in April in an effort to highlight the crisis at the Texas border and to relief the influx of migrants into border cities. That effort has since expanded to included Chicago and NYC – or locations that have ‘Sanctuary City’ designations.
Last month, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis faced criticism for funding private planes carrying migrants from Texas to Florida and on to Martha’s Vineyard.
