AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News ) – It’s been five months since 10 people were killed and more than 300 were injured due to a crowd surge during a Travis Scott concert at the Astroworld Festival in Houston, and a state task force issued recommendations on Tuesday to prevent another tragedy.
The Texas Task Force on Concert Safety, led by Texas Music Office Director Brendon Anthony, held several roundtable discussions to develop ways to increase safety at live music events in Texas.
The Texas Music Office created an online Event Production Guide for organizers and promoters to follow.
The Texas Task Force on Concert Safety issued five recommendations in the final report:
- Unified On-Site Command and Control
- Permitting Changes
- Increased Training
- Planning with Risk Assessment
- Centralized Resources

Governor Greg Abbott formed the task force immediately after the November 5 tragedy and thanked them for their hard work.
“I thank the Texas Task Force on Concert Safety for their commitment to safety and security for all concertgoers and for their collaboration with stakeholders on this critical report,” said Governor Abbott. “The recommendations, findings, and solutions detailed in this report will the State of Texas prevent another tragedy like that at Astroworld Festival from happening again,” he said.
Two North Texans were among the fatalities. 27-year-old Danish Baig died while saving his fiancé during the chaos.
9-year-old Ezra Blount died after being put into a medically induced coma due to injuries sustained from being trampled at the concert.
Hundreds of lawsuits have been filed, including against rapper Travis Scott and Live Nation, and investigations connected to the tragedy are ongoing.
