Washington, DC (AP) – A federal judge in Washington has refused to free Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes from jail. Rhodes, a resident of Granbury, petitioned for release on bail while he awaits trial for allegedly plotting with other members of the Oath Keepers to attack the U.S. Capitol. Prosecutors say Rhodes and his group thought they could stop Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s electoral victory. U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta ruled there is compelling evidence against Rhodes, and he presents “a clear and continuing danger” to the United States government. His case is the most serious yet brought against 750 federal defendants charged in connection with the January 6, 2021 insurrection. Rhodes and four other members of the Oath Keepers will remain jailed pending their trials in July.
