DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The man accused of selling a gun to the man who held four hostages inside a Colleyville synagogue will remain behind bars pending trial.
During a hearing on Wednesday in Dallas, U.S. Magistrate Judge Rebecca Rutherford ordered Henry Dwight “Michael” Williams detained pending trial. Prosecutors had argued to detain the defendant based on the danger he poses to the community and his risk of flight.
At the hearing, an FBI agent testified that the gun =Williams allegedly sold to synagogue hostage suspect Malik Faisal Akram had been stolen. Prosecutors introduced into evidence photos of the gun, which was recovered at the synagogue.
The agent testified that in an interview with law enforcement, Williams stated that Akram had requested a “machine gun” or a gun that could hold “a lot of bullets” and that he wanted the firearm so that he could “intimidate” someone who purportedly owed him money. Instead, Williams allegedly provided Akram the stolen Taurus G2C pistol. Williams reported that Akram also asked Williams if he could purchase methamphetamine and cocaine.
The agent testified that during the interview, Williams admitted that he knew he could not legally possess a firearm, that he routinely offered to be a fence for stolen items, and that he had sold guns on the street 10 to 15 times previously.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas, Williams also stated that a relative who heard about the sale warned him that Akram “is going to hurt someone.”
