RICHARDSON (WBAP/KLIF) – As the covid-19 omicron variant continues to spread in North Texas, the University of Texas at Dallas is adjusting its calendar.
According to UTD, the highly contagious omicron variant of coronavirus is now projected to account for 92% of current COVID-19 infections in a multistate region that includes Texas. As a result, administrators announced that the first day of classes in the second semester have been moved from January 10 to January 18.
“Delaying the start of classes by eight days gives added time to assess the progression of the virus and will give our faculty, staff and students a bit more time to prepare if our instructional modalities have to be adjusted,” said University President Richard Benson said in a letter to students.”
According to Dr. Benson, no changes to modalities or size of classes are planned at this time.
