DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas City Manager is promising more transparency following the deletion of police evidence files.
According to city leadership, more than 22 terabytes of Police evidence files were unintentionally deleted by a city employee. Eight of those files are still missing.
The files went missing in April, but the City Council and Mayor didn’t learn about the deletion until earlier this month.
“As it relates to our leadership team, we did not live up to my expectations or the expectations of the council and the community,” said City Manager, T.C. Broadnax. “We’ve shared that we acknowledge that and we’re going to move forward.”
Assistant City Manager Jon Fortune promised a joint city council committee investigating the deleted files that city staff will be more transparent.
“The first questions that we need to be asking ourselves is who should we notify and when,” Fortune said.
Fortune, and other members of the leadership team, said they didn’t realize the magnitude of the situation until weeks ago.
The joint committee hearing came at the request of Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson.
