DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Reliant Energy presented the Dallas Education Foundation with a check for $125,000 on Thursday to help Dallas ISD repair damages suffered in February’s winter storm.
Millions of Texans were left in the dark after the state’s electric grid operator forced outages to relieve an overwhelmed power grid.
Freezing temperatures and busted water pipes caused damage in more than 140 Dallas ISD schools. The performing arts departments at six schools lost band equipment and instruments during the storm. The money from Reliant will help provide new musical instruments, speakers, instrument cases, uniforms, sheet music and more.
“I feel incredible,” said a student at E.D. Walker Middle School. “Because I had to by my own clarinet because all the instruments were moldy and decayed.”
The Dallas Education Foundation has allocated the donated money to all impacted DISD schools.
