DESOTO (WBAP/KLIF)- Turmoil continues at the top of the DeSoto Independent School District.
During Sunday’s special called meeting DeSoto ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to rescind Superintendent D’Andre Weaver’s resignation and approved his reinstatement as district superintendent.
He resigned when an investigation by the Texas Education Commission found a previous administration had committed fraud and financial mismanagement. Weaver was replaced by acting Superintendent Don Hooper. Then, it turned out that Hooper had a history of racially insensitive comments on social media.
During the meeting the board announced that Hooper no longer works for the district.
Following the decision, the Board expressed its intent to move forward in partnership with Dr. Weaver with a unified focus on a successful launch of the district state- and nationally-recognized virtual instructional framework as the district prepares to start school on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
The district said Weaver is excited to return to duty in DeSoto ISD effective immediately.
“We started some great work on behalf of students here,” Dr. Weaver said. “I want to be here to see that work through. I love DeSoto and I’m ready to return to work so that we can shift the focus back to what really matters—our students.”
The Board offered the following statement:
“As a Board, we look forward to welcoming Dr. Weaver back to DeSoto ISD so that we can get back to our collective work of serving the students, staff and families of DeSoto ISD with care and fidelity.”
