DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — The man they call Romostradamus for his seemingly prescient ability to predict offensive football plays before they happen is reportedly looking for a huge pay raise.
Tony Romo retired as quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys in 2016. He was a very good football player but in just two seasons as color commentator for CBS he has become the most celebrated TV football expert since John Madden. The Sporting News reports Romo’s agents are looking for a huge pay bump for the man still fondly referred to as “Number 9” in North Texas. The number being bounced around is $10 million, which would make him the highest paid sports analyst in history, surpassing his former Cowboys teammate, Troy Aikman, who reportedly earns about $7.5 million per year.
If CBS balks at the request Romo could become a free agent after his deal expires following the 2019 season. On the other hand, Romo’s knows better than anyone that his success is due in no small part to what has amounted to a perfect partnership with Jim Nantz, widely regarded as the best play-by-play announcer in sports. Nantz and Romo have formed a close friendship and Nantz has been very generous with his time, helpful experience and his willingness to let Romo have the spotlight.
