In the most recent development the NAACP Legal Defense Fund suggested that Fitzgerald’s name be withdrawn from consideration, saying that it is troubled by his record, and the process used to select him.
The statement comes just days after the Baltimore Sun reported that Fitzgerald over-stated his credentials.
Fort Worth City Manager David Cooke speaks out on Fitzgerald’s decision.
Cooke said right now the city is giving him time to be with family.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. When the time is right, we look forward to working with him to understand his desire to fully commit to the work here in Fort Worth,” Cooke said.
In a statement Fitzgerald talks about the heartfelt support he’s received, his focus on his family and the fort worth community.
