Lewisville, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – Lewisville police announced Wednesday that 25-year old Lauren Kavanaugh — who is known for being “The Girl in the Closet” — was arrested on charges of sexual assault of a child on Monday.
Officers received a tip from a 14-year-old girl that she had been sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh.
Kavanaugh is nationally know for being found tortured and starving in the closet of her family’s Hutchins, Texas, home in 2001. Her parents are currently in prison.
She allegedly started a Facebook page to reach out to other potential abuse victims, which is how she met the teen.
According to court records, Kavanaugh was rescued in June 2001 from a closet in her family’s mobile home. She had been abused from ages 2 to 8. She weighed 25.6 pounds and had been starved, tortured and repeatedly sexually abused.
