DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — A server at Saltgrass Steak House in Odessa has admitted faking a note written on a customer’s check.
The server, Khalil Cavil posted the note reading “We don’t tip terrorists” on Facebook saying, “This racism and this hatred still exists.” The post went viral and the restaurant banned the customer blamed for the message. Since then Cavil has admitted faking the note and story because the customer left no tip.
Cavil told the Odessa American newspaper, “I’m sorry. I deeply made a huge, big mistake. And I’m in the process of getting the help that I need.”
Saltgrass COO Terry Turney issued a statement to USA TODAY explaining, “The customer has been contacted and invited back to our restaurant to dine on us. Racism of any form is intolerable, and we will always act swiftly should it occur in any of our establishments. Falsely accusing someone of racism is equally disturbing.”
