Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Firefighters are making progress on the Palo Pinto County wildfire that’s burned almost 4,500 acres so far, fueled by drought and tinder-dry brush.
Containment has grown to 65 percent as of Friday. National Weather Service meteorologist Jason Godland tells us the area did receive as much as one quarter of an inch of rain Friday, but not enough to significantly help put out the fire.
Flight restrictions are in effect over the area to help officials use aircraft to dump retardants on the fire.
It’s believed the “Surprise” fire was lightening-sparked. No rain sufficient to put out the Palo Pinto wildfire, burning about 60 miles west of Fort Worth, is expected this weekend.
