SAN ANTONIO (WBAP/KLIF News) – A federal judge has sided with a civil rights group that claimed that Texas is in violation of national voter registration laws.
U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia of San Antonio ordered a fix that could launch the state’s first online voter registration system.
In 2016, The Texas Civil Rights Project filed the lawsuit on behalf of four Texans who claimed they were unable to participate in recent elections because their voter registration had not been updated.
The group said Texas violated federal law by failing to register residents to vote when they updated their drivers’ license information online.
More details on how the Garcia will direct Texas to comply are expected in the next two weeks.
An appeal of the ruling is expected.
