Temple (WBAP/KLIF) – A Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol trooper was killed Saturday afternoon while conducting a traffic stop on the shoulder of I-35 in Temple. 63 year old Thomas Nipper was hit from behind by an oncoming pickup truck, and was dead at the scene. He is the 220th DPS officer to die in the line of duty since 1823.
