(WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas County school districts could be making changes to their transportation plans if voters pass a proposition on next week’s ballot.
Voters will decide whether or not to abolish Dallas County Schools, the group that provides bus service to the districts. The company has taken recent heat for the behavior of its drivers and financial problems.
Tierney Tinnin with Irving ISD says as of now DCS is the sole bus provider for the district.
“We have about 5,700 students that take the bus to and from school everyday of about 35,000 students in the district,” Tinnin said.
If the bus service is dissolved each district will move forward with other plans to bus their kids.
“We’re taking a wait and see approach,” Tinnin said. “We don’t want to speculate what will happen on November 7. But at the end of the day we will make sure that our students will have a safe and enjoyable transportation experience.”
If DCS is abolished it would remain operational through the end of the current school year. Each school district in Dallas County would would be responsible for plans to move forward.
