DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas residents are gaining more access to cheap transportation with the emergence of bike share companies around the city.
Stationless bike share is a new idea that allows people to rent bicycles with a smart phone application and drop it off when they get where they are going.
Euwyn Poon, Co-founder of Spin, a company that recently published several dozen bikes for the Dallas area says the bikes are primarily placed in heavily populated urban areas.
“It’s a very healthy, eco-friendly way to get around town,” said Poon. “It avoids congestion and is pretty cheap. It avoids the need to park, in fact, it’s a good compliment to driving as well.”
The Spin app charges $1 for every half hour of use.
“We try to make the pricing affordable,” said Poon. “Most other companies charge for a day pass or money up front and we take away all that.”
When a rider is done with the bike, they simply leave it at the closest bike rack for the next user.
