Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – The Texas Department of Public Safety has reversed direction, and says it will not bill other law enforcement agencies for the services of the DPS crime lab. It announced July 20 that it was going to impose fees on lab work because the budget passed by the state legislature required it to do so. Governor Greg Abbott sent a letter to the DPS Friday morning insisting there is no such requirement in the state budget, nor was there ever intended to be. By Friday evening the DPS fee plans had been dropped.
