BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) – A Southeast Texas man who was sentenced in 2016 to five years of federal probation for killing two endangered whooping cranes while hunting has been sent to prison for violating his probation.
Trey Joseph Frederick was sentenced to 11 months in federal prison Thursday in Beaumont.
Prosecutors say Frederick violated his probation by using an AR-15 assault-style rifle to hunt from a roadway. The terms of his probation had prohibited him from possessing firearms, ammunition or any other dangerous weapon. He also had been barred from hunting or fishing anywhere in the country.
