DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — A new study may have you rethinking how Dallas officers handle minorities. The findings recently published in the American Journal of Public Health show that in Dallas, white officers do not disproportionately use force against minorities. The research looked at 5,630 use-of-force reports filed by DPD to determine if the data supported the popular assumption that white officers target minorities.
Examiners concluded that the relationship between Dallas police and the community is relatively calm. In 2015, Dallas police were involved in 11 shootings, five being fatal. According to the Dallas Morning News, in 2016 the department was comprised of 50 percent white, 26 percent black and 21 percent Hispanic.
