Grand Prairie (WBAP/KLIF News) – Several thousand people filled Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie Thursday for a rally with Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. The rally was organized by the Democratic National Committee.
The committee’s “Come Together and Fight Back Tour” has made stops in several states won by President Donald Trump in an effort to rally support among his opposition. In Grand Prairie, Sanders’ supporters started lining up around 7 am for the event at noon.
“I think we’re all really tired of divided politics,” said one supporter as she went into the theater.
Organizers expected about three thousand people to attend.
“We spend all our time in the legislature battling social, divisive issues that are intended to divide us,” says Chad Harris, who came from Austin for the rally.
Sanders talked about his efforts to increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour and provide universal health care.
The tour had already made stops in Maine, Florida and Kentucky. After the stop in Grand Prairie, Sanders and Democratic National Committee Vice Chair Tom Perez left for another rally in Nebraska Thursday evening, followed by events in Utah, Arizona and Nevada Friday and Saturday.
