DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo sat on the Dallas Mavericks’ bench as an honorary player for only one game, but his jersey was still quite the hot commodity.
And no, not his No. 9 Dallas Cowboys jersey — his No. 9 Mavericks jersey.
The team made 48 jerseys and 500 t-shirt name-and-number jerseys available at last night’s home finale against the Denver Nuggets, and they sold out of all them before the end of the first quarter.
To put it in perspective, Dirk Nowitzki jerseys and t-shirt name-and-number jerseys tend to fly off the shelves at a rate of more than 120 per game during the season in-store — not counting online sales. That number of course went up when he reached the 30,000 point milestone earlier this season.
Romo didn’t actually play in the game, but did take part in the pregame layup line, acknowledging fans while he shot the ball during warm-ups.
He tried to sneak in late, but only before Mark Cuban rushed after him and pulled him back to the Mavs bench.
