Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Texas Rangers have broken ground on an expansion of a youth center near Sunset and Pinkston High Schools in Dallas. The Rangers had already built four baseball diamonds at the $14 million project.
“We looked at this as being a lot bigger than grooming fans,” says the Rangers Ownership Committee’s Neil Leibman. “This is giving back to the community. This is an area that really needs organization for the children.”
The expansion includes a major league-sized infield, raining room and weight room. The facility will also include a conference room and four classrooms.
“We’ve got first class instructional play, first-class education,” Leibman says. “I think it’ll benefit the Rangers, the city and the community.”
The 39,000 square foot facility should open in the summer of 2017.
