Austin (WBAP/KLIF News) – Texas was one of three states where al Qaeda has threatened attacks on Monday. Federal authorities warned Texas, Virginia and New York about the potential for an attack.
“My office is working with law enforcement officials, and we are continuing to monitor the situation,” Governor Greg Abbott writes in a statement. “Texans should go about their daily lives as usual but remain vigilant over the next several days.”
Abbott says has contacted the Department of Public Safety and says the state “will continue to do everything it can to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.”
The Department of Public Safety says it is “constantly” in touch with the Joint Terrorism Task Force.
In Virginia, Senator and Democratic Vice Presidential Nominee Tim Kaine is scheduled to appear at a rally for Hillary Clinton on Monday. Virginia’s secretary of public safety and homeland security says the threat will not cancel the event.
The Associated Press has reported the FBI is working with law enforcement agencies about threats of a terror attack around election day, but the threat “lacks specificity.”
