Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Since the July 7th attack on police officers in downtown Dallas, local businesses and the Fallen Officer Foundation have raised a half million dollars for the families of the fallen and wounded officers.
The final $80,000 of the $500,000 goal was presented to the Foundation by Versa Printing, which made the “Pray For Dallas” T-shirts people have been wearing since “that day”. All of the money raised by sales of the shirts goes to officers’ families.
One state lawmaker says he’s traveled overseas and across the nation since 7-7-16, and people are amazed at Dallas’ spirit.
“They’re in awe of our abiding love and respect for our law enforcement, “said Representative Rafael Anchia (D-Dallas). “It’s not like that in other countries, ladies and gentlemen, even in other states in this Union. Not like here in Texas, not like here in Dallas. You don’t see that in other places.”
Dallas Deputy Police Chief Catrina Sheads says as much good as the money will do for the families of those officers, the thought behind the Pray For Dallas campaign is more important.
“I don’t know that we’ll ever completely heal,” said Sheads. “However, what the City of Dallas needs, and the Police Department needs, is prayer. Prayer is for healing…that is exactly what we need.”
Versa Printing was only one of a number of businesses and private citizens who donated to the Foundation. President and Dallas police officer Sergeant Demetrick Pennie says he even got a check for $120 from some kids who set up a lemonade stand to help raise money.
